LecturerJoseph W. Karp CPM Joseph W. Karp is responsible for the Asset Management, Leasing and Development Program of Apollo-Rida’s 1,000,000 M2 retail & office portfolio in Poland and Germany. Additionally he is responsible for market expansion in Poland, Germany, Turkey and Switzerland. Karp has over 35 years experience in the leasing, management, and development of all types of investment grade real estate and is an internationally recognized expert in shopping center management and leasing.Prior to Joining Apollo-Rida in February 2005 he was affiliated with Cencor Realty Services and Equity One/United Investors Realty Trust serving in Director positions over the Leasing, Asset Management, Development and Human Resource Departments in both companies. From 1995 to 1998 he was Managing Principal of Realty/REIT Advisors, a consulting practice that focused on providing real estate and organizational enhancements as well as privatization advisement for IREM/EERPF and the governments of Poland, Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, Slovakia, and Russia. He helped established the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) chapters in Poland, Hungary and Russia, the Polish National Association of Property Managers and the Polish Real Estate Industry Council. He also advised the governments of Poland and Romania in the drafting of their real estate licensing laws, and developed specialized real estate training programs in all of the above Central & Eastern European countries utilized by IREM. From 1981 through 1995 he served as Vice President and Director of Operating Properties for Weingarten Realty Investors, one of the largest US based REITs. In that capacity he led the management, marketing, and capital renovation departments for the entire WRI corporate portfolio of over 2,500,000 m2. Prior to joining Weingarten he was associated with Arlen Realty Management, Inc. where he started his real estate career in 1973. Karp is on the national and international faculties of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) and the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). He has been a regular convention speaker for both organizations. He has also contributed as author, co-author, or editorial consultant to a number of IREM, ICSC, CREI, and other industry publications. He is a past IREM chapter President and an ICSC CSM National Governing Committee member. Karp attended the University of Maryland, Munich Campus, Munich, Germany and obtained his BS degree from Arizona State University. He is a Counselor of Real Estate (CRE), a Certified Property Manager (CPM), a Senior Certified Leasing Specialist (SCLS), a Senior Certified Shopping Center Manager (SCSM), a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), and a licensed Broker in the State of Texas. |
